    Heart failure is the third most common diagnosis in home care and the most common reason for rehospitalization. The conditions must be coded accurately both for clinical points as well as for outcomes data. The home health Registered Nurse and other home health clinicians will learn how to accurately code heart failure to ensure correct clinical points and to correctly reflect the plan of care.

    *This workshop is a two day event on April 20-21, 2010. Attendees will be given the opportunity to take the HCS-D certification and recertification exam on April 22, 2010. Attendees must register separately through the HCS-D for the exam.

    This workshop is designed for the home health Registered Nurse and other clinicians desiring to elevate their coding skills to a higher level. Appropriate coding has a tremendous impact on reimbursement, therefore attendees will learn during the first two days of this course how to apply coding rules and conventions for correct home health coding. The HCS-D Examination will be offered on the third day for those interested in testing their coding knowledge and skills. This workshop will be a perfect opportunity for individuals that are already HCS-D certified to obtain coding CE and retest if needed.
    Attendees who want to test for the Home Care Coding Specialist-Diagnosis certification exam or recertification exam will have an opportunity to sit for the test April 22, 2010. Attendees must register separately with the Board of Medical Specialty Coding (BMSC) prior to taking the exam.

    The registration fee for the exam is $249 and recertification is $129. The fee is set by the BMSC and must be paid in advance and sent directly to BMSC. The HCS-D tests the intersection of coding, billing and PPS and it is strongly recommended that a test-taker have at least two years of coding experience before sitting for the exam.
